Áloratur (Caminito Travel) · Ronda and Setenil de las Bodegas

Ronda and Setenil in one day

Áloratur takes you by coach to Ronda for about four hours above its gorge, then on to Setenil de las Bodegas, the village built under overhanging rock. Pick it because you see two towns in one day without driving mountain roads, and you choose between a guided walk and exploring at your own pace.

Ronda & Setenil Day Trip from Málaga

About this experience

Ronda sits on a plateau split by El Tajo, a gorge cut by the Guadalevín river and about 120 metres deep. The Puente Nuevo spans it and took 34 years to build, from 1759 to 1793. You get about four hours in town. On the guided option, a 2-hour guided walk covers the bridge and the old quarter. On the self-paced option you get an interactive map and short videos in your language, and you set your own route.

Then the coach continues to Setenil de las Bodegas, which is in Cádiz province, not Málaga. Its houses and bars are built into the rock along the river canyon. A shuttle train takes you in, and the listing gives you about an hour there before the drive back, which takes about 1.5 hours.

Caveats. The wine tasting and tapas at Casa Museo Don Bosco come only with that option, so check what you're booking. Meals and other entrance fees are not included. The listing says the day doesn't suit wheelchair users or people with low fitness, strollers are not allowed, and children must be 4 or older.

  • About four hours in Ronda, with the New Bridge over El Tajo
  • Guided walk or self-paced visit, depending on the option you book
  • A shuttle train into Setenil de las Bodegas
  • Optional 30-minute wine tasting with tapas at Casa Museo Don Bosco
  • Map and videos in eight languages, live guide in English or Spanish

Tips before you book

  • Pick the guided option for a first visit. Ronda's history is the reason to go, and two hours with a guide covers it well.
  • Walk below the bridge for the classic photo. The view from the gorge paths beats the view from the bridge itself.
  • Eat lunch a few streets away from the bridge, where it is quieter.
  • Bring a light jacket outside summer. Ronda is higher and cooler than Málaga.
